Exporting Workpapers
Download a finished workpaper from the Workpaper tab in one of three formats (the .zip bundle that keeps live Excel add-in links, the .xlsx with embedded document groups, or the data-only .xlsx) and pick the format that matches how the audit file will be used.
When a workpaper is reviewed and validated, you export it from the Workpaper tab so it can live in the audit file alongside every other workpaper for the engagement. Agentive offers three export formats from a single Download button, each one tuned to a different use case (live Excel add-in editing, a self-contained Excel bundle with documents embedded, or a flat data-only spreadsheet).
This page covers where to download from, the three formats, and which one to pick.
What you'll learn
- When a workpaper is ready to export.
- Where the Download button lives.
- The three export options and what each one supports.
- How to pick the right format for the audit file.
Where to download
The export menu lives on the Workpaper tab.
Open the Workpaper tab
Inside the request, switch to the Workpaper tab. Confirm the cells look right: green where validated, red on documented exceptions, no stray yellow.
Click Download in the top right
Click the Download button in the top-right corner. A menu opens with the three export options.
Pick a format
Choose Files + Workpaper (.zip), Files + Workpaper (.xlsx), or Workpaper only (.xlsx). Each one is detailed below.
The export options
At a glance:
| Option | Format | Supporting documents | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Files + Workpaper | .zip | Bundled alongside the workpaper | Working with the workpaper inside the Excel add-in while keeping the source files reachable. |
| Files + Workpaper | .xlsx | Embedded into the workbook | A single self-contained Excel file with the documents already inside. |
| Workpaper only | .xlsx | None | A flat snapshot of the data for review when add-in editing and live citations aren't needed. |
Heads up on the .zip format
The .zip bundle's add-in links resolve by relative path. If you unzip and then move the workbook out of the unzipped folder (or delete the surrounding folder), the live links break. Keep the workbook inside the folder Agentive created on unzip.
What every export contains
Regardless of format, the workpaper data itself is consistent:
Custom Columns
Every selection (row) × every column on every document group, with the validated values, formulas, and tickmarks the auditor signed off on.
Comments
Any comments added to a cell will show up as a cell comment in the excel file.
Tickmarks
Testing Attribute tickmarks (Pass / Exception / NA) come through with the supporting memos and any auditor overrides intact.
Memo Information
Any information filled in on the memo tab including the purpose, accounting policies, source(s), and conclusion.
The export is a snapshot. If you change the workpaper in Agentive after exporting, the downloaded file does not update. Re-export to capture changes from Agentive.

← Sampling
Choose a sampling method that produces a defensible selection.
Excel Add-In →
Install the Add-In so source documents stay one click away inside Excel.
How is this guide?
Sampling
Pull selections from a full population with the right method for the job (No Sampling, Monetary Unit Sampling, Random Sampling, Test Coverage Sampling, or Journal Entry Testing). Agentive saves the methodology and the original population to a documentation file you can attach to the audit file.
The Excel Add-in
Install the Agentive Excel add-in on Windows in one continuous flow: set up Trusted Sites, download the installer, run setup.exe, sign in, and pick the engagement.
